Iron Ons

I bought some iron-on jewels and studs and decided to give them a try on these childrens caps. You have to put your iron on the hottest cotton setting and I didn't know if it would affect the caps or not. I turned the cap inside out and tested the iron on the cap and to my surprise it didn't hurt the cap. The iron-ons had about 5 rows of jewels and studs, so I cut off what section I wanted to use. I peeled the back side off and the front has a clear sheet that the jewels and studs stick to. First I placed the studs in the location I wanted them, turned the fabic over and then I followed the instructions that came with the studs. After I had ironed the studs on I set it aside to cool for 3 minutes. When I peeled the clear plastic off, one of the studs wanted to peel off with it, so I finished pulling the clear sheet off and then I ironed it for 10 more second. I had no problem with the jewels but went ahead and ironed it for 10 more seconds anyway. I think they turned out so cute and I'm ready to do more. The instructions do say hand wash and lay flat to dry, so I will probably stick to crafts rather then childrens clothes.

Baptismal and Dedication Bracelets

I am so Blessed. My Daughter was Baptised November 15th and I had two grandchildren Dedicated the next weekend. To commerate the occasions I made each one of them a bracelet and a tag to remember the date. For my daughters bracelet I used monofilament thread. I thread on two charms, pearl  and silver beads and knotted the ends on. I used clear nail polish to secure the knots.
For my grandchildrens bracelets I used 1/8" ribbon with crosses, pony bead letters and beads with wide holes to get the ribbon through. You would think the ribbon would go through easily because it is very thin ribbon but it doesn't. I took a 4" piece of 18 guage wire, bent it in half and placed the ribbon through it so I could thread the beads on. See the bottom picture. I tried some of my tiny needles but they were all to large to fit through the holes on some of the beads. I didn't want to use the monofilamnt for the kids bracelets because I was afraid they would pull on them and break them and eat the beads.

Pumpkin Patch

I have made many of these fabric pumpkins for my pumpkin patch. They are easy to make and I think they are just adorable. This one has a satin yoyo on top of a felt flower for a stem. I just love yoyos. I cut six football shaped pieces of material (see below) and sewed them together. I sewed one end all the way closed and the other end I stopped about 1 1/2" from the top. Turn it inside out and stuff. At first I made them without the ribbon but they were pretty plain. I run the ribbon from one side, down and around to the other side. I tack all of the ribbons to the pumpkin on the bottom where they intersect. Then baste around the open end catching the ribbon as I go and pull untill the opening is about 2" diameter. I sewed on the felt flower and the yoyo. I'm going to make one and use rick rack instead of ribbon with a pinecone flower on top. Won't that be cute.

Grocery Cart Cover for a Baby

My niece asked if I could make a grocery cart cover for her baby daughter Emily. With the Swine Flu going around and babys putting everything in their mouths I thought "what a good idea". So I went on the internet and found a free pattern at crafts.sleepingbaby.net/cart_cover.html. The small tie on top is so she can tie toys on for Emily to play with. I tried it on a grocery cart and it was too small, My husband said throw it away and make a new one but I was determined to fix this one. I cut the side and added an extra piece. I was pretty pleased with the end result. This one has batting in it because Emily is just learning to sit up and if she falls over hopefully it won't hurt her....that is my theory. When I cut the leg flaps I only cut around the top and sides so there is a flap that hangs down. This one is brown with pink dots...so cute. I think my grandson needs one, he should be sitting soon. Oh yea, I almost forgot it's reversable and machine washable.
