Every Southern Gurl Should Have One of These!

Every Southern Gurl should have
one or two different umbrellas for those hot southern days when you can't be under the veranda sipping mint tea juleps. No, this umbrella is not for the rain, it's to make us look sweeter than we already are. Now the second umbrella might be for our ornery days, when we are feeling a little bit sassy and our dear sweet husbands should watch out. My husband wants me to warn him when I'm feeling that way but that takes all of the fun out of it, keeps him on his toes. Now what little girl wouldn't love having one of these and what are we but little girls at heart. Society tells us we can't do that any longer, you have to grow up but I say oh yes we can. The white lace is sewn on with a tiny white ribbon along
the top edge, when I got to the seam I would allow an extra 12" so I could tie bows there. The black trim around the second umbrella is actually two feather boas that I glued on with E6000 and I used clothespins to hold it in place until it dried. I love those boas but if you have to cut them, which I did, feathers fly everywhere. Now I think I'll make me some of those cute drink umbrellas to match, won't that be precious?

Re-Cycled CD's

I have a swing on my back porch and the birds would sit on the bar overhead and make a mess of the cushion. So I took some old CD's and drilled 1/8" holes around the edges. Then I ran yarn through the holes and glued the ends on the back side. I hung it over the swing and I don't have bird poo on my swing anymore, yea! I made one and used it on a scrapbook page for a dad who likes music. You could run yarn through it (add beads) and make a dream catcher (Prayer Catcher) or hang items down from it and make wind chimes. You can paint the CD's and modge podge round photos on them and hang charms from the holes.

Southern Gurl Umbrella

I bought two umbrellas at the store the other day and they were so plain and that will just not do. I pulled the plastic knobs off of the ends and it gave me about six inches from the bottom to sew on. I took some brown tulle on a spool, folded it in half and gathered it down the middle. Each panel of the umbrella was approximately 16" and there are 8 panels = 128" of gathered tulle. I ran a piece of pink ribbon down the center and used pink thread so you wouldn't see the thread underneath. I had some gathered tulle left over so I glued it around the top piece. I need to run to the store and get some more notions and then I will post the other umbrella.

Found Fairy Wing

I made this clay mushroom and set it in my garden so I could catch a fairy. It's not easy to catch a fairy, they only come out when the flowers are touched by the dew. So I didn't catch a fairy but I found a fairy wing and I couldn't wait to show my niece, nephew and grand kids. I took it to the pool party my sister was having and showed it to my grandson Payton, he snickered at me and said it looks like a locus wing and then he walked off, well fiddle dee dee! Next I showed it to my niece Alivia and her brother James and James wanted to touch it so I let him, luckily I pulled my hand down as he gouged it....little boys ugh! Sweet Alivia looks up at me and says "Did she die?" OK I was stunned, thankfully her mother was standing there and told her they fall off all the time and then they grow back. Wow, what a day, I need to go home and rethink my fairy ideas (stories) a little better.

Cuff Jewelry

I had this cuff bracelet and it was getting very ragged and my daughter had a belt that was just about worn out in one spot so instead of throw them away I recycled them. I pulled on the brown yarn and sequins which came off pretty easy and under it was hot glue that just scraped off. I took the belt and cut a strip long enough for the cuff and rounded the ends to match the cuff. I wanted the belt to sit down in the cuff so I had to trim a tiny bit off of both sides of the belt with scissors. The hot glue that was on the cuff was cracking so I used E6000 to glue the belt on because it is so flexible. Now if I wore this outside the house everyone would laugh at me so I think I will put this with my costumes. But if I get one of those wild hairs I might just wear it and embarrass my kids.

Bishop's Growth Chart

I finally finished Bishop's growth chart and then it took me a few weeks to get it to him, he'll be grown before he gets to use it. At the two foot marker I started off with a felt teddy bear, at the three foot marker is a foam toy truck, the four foot marker has a cloth Superman emblem, the five foot marker has a foam baseball and the six foot marker has a guitar. I tired to keep the items age related with a few paper band aids and worms thrown in. The guitar is made out of clay, I printed out a guitar off of the computer and with an exacto knife I cut around the shape and with the edge of a ruler I made the impressions on the neck of the guitar and with a stamp I made the scroll impressions on the base of the guitar. I baked the clay according to the package instructions and then painted the top making sure the paint went down into the impressions. After the paint was dry I sanded the top leaving paint only in the impressions. I used E6000 to glue everything onto the chart and let me tell you that glue is good.

Who Done It?

My nephew Jason had a rabbit run out in front of him and he flipped the atv he was riding and I have rounded up the suspects for him to take a look at as soon as he recovers. We didn't retrieve any Rabbit, alias Hare, alias Bunny prints at the scene of the crime and there were no witnesses. I haven't been able to question the victim yet but I have talked to the first rescue person at the scene of the crime, his brother Ryan who tried to carry him and said "Jason tore up his foot pretty bad". We will start our line up with Bugs Bunny (looking pretty smug, what is that wascally wabbit up too?), next is Brer Rabbit (he has an alibi, the Tar Baby), next Thumper (all that foot thumping could drive a person crazy), next is Roger Rabbit (framed for another crime), next the Energizer Bunny (what are the dark glasses for?), next is Rabbit (we spoke to some of the other folks in the 100 acre woods and we were told he is very organized and likes to take charge) our last suspect is the Easter Bunny(very suspicious looking fellow, I hear he had hidden talents). If anyone has any information pertaining to this crime please contact me.
