My New Ride

I have been walking every day after work and it is making me brave! Brave enough to buy a bicycle, I got a 26" Cranbrook Huffy and I added the basket to hold my stuff. Now I know what your thinking, that looks like a Granny bike and yes, it is and yes, I am! I think it is too stinkin cute! I brought it to work yesterday planning to ride it at the park after work. I get to the park and my tail gate of my truck won't open, I bang and bang on it but it still won't open. So I walk a few laps around the pond, pouting all the way. I get home and my dear sweet hubby takes my tail gate apart and fixes my tail gate....yea. So this afternoon I will try it again. Maybe God is trying to tell me something... Girl, you are gonna barely be able to walk the next day. I know, baby rides, but I will look so stinkin cute on my new ride. Just honk and wave when you drive by.

Easter Bonnets and Bow Ties

It's that time of year again, time to get to the store and find me a dress and a bonnet. Last year I found the bonnet first and then had to buy a dress to match (big mistake). This year I am going for the dress first and the bonnet will come after. I went to Pinterest and searched for "Derby Hats and Easter Bonnets" and it brought up some of the cutest hats, a few which I have displayed here. I really like the yellow hat so I might try to find a yellow dress and then off to find a hat. My girls found hats at Garden Ridge a few years ago and bought lots of them, so that will be my first stop. Then off to Hobby Lobby to match the dress. I intend on having the best dressed hat at Church this year, I do believe I was beat last year. I think we need to bring back the tradition of going all out for Easter Sunday, that means bow ties too. Christ is risen! He is Risen indeed!

Resurrection Biscuits

Every year for Lent, I make Resurrection biscuits to explain the empty tomb. You need 1 can of biscuits and 10 marshmallows, plus a few more just to make sure they haven't gone bad. Wash and dry every body's hand before you get started. Flatten you biscuit and place a marshmallow in the center. Fold the sides over and pinch the sides until it is completely closed. Place the biscuits on a foil covered cookie sheet for easy clean up. Pre-heat the oven following the instructions on the biscuit can, mine said 400 degrees. Some of the biscuits opened up so I pinched them close again. I baked mine according to the can 13 minutes. When the biscuits are ready there will be marshmallow oozed out but the marshmallow will no longer be inside the biscuit, let the biscuits cool completely, the melted marshmallow will stick to you and burn. Crack the biscuit open and the marshmallow will not be there just like Jesus is no longer in the cave. The Angel told the women at the cave "Do not be afraid, He is not here, He is Risen". You will see melted marshmallow but the actual marshmallow will not be there and you get the added bonus of eating the biscuit. The melted marshmallow acts as frosting in the biscuit....yum! My 30 Minute Cross

Help! I started making these Crosses and I can't stop. It really only takes 30 minutes to make one of these. They are about 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" and I am using up all of my scrap material. After I cut them out I start sewing at the side under the first cross bar and go up. After I get all the way around to the bottom, I stuff it and then finish sewing it closed. I take a small wire brush and go across the edges to rough them up and that's it. Now on some I am adding ribbon at the top but as I'm sewing I just add that in. As you can see on some of them I have glued on buttons, Crosses and do-dads using E6000 and then I let that dry overnight with something heavy on top. Wouldn't these be cute on a wreath? Or you could give them as a baby gift to hang on the crib or door knob....oh the ideas!

Resurrection Set

I found this Resurrection set over at catholicicing.com, click on Downloads and scroll down to Resurrection set. She gives you the pages to print and color or you can print the pages in color. This is a great way to teach your children about Jesus. The Crucifixion starts at Matthew 27:32 and the the Angel appears to the women and says, "Do not be afraid" at Matthew 28. This is a good time for adults to brush up on the story.

Wire Hearts

I made some wire hearts to hang around my craft room and wouldn't it be fun to hang them around the house before Valentine's day? I took 22 inches of wire and shaped it into a heart shape. It doesn't matter if they're not perfect you cover them up with seam binding lace. I used about 88 inches of lace, cut it into two pieces, sew the sides together leaving a space in the center to thread the lace onto the wire. I used a tiny piece of white duct tape to hold the wire together where the two down pieces meet. Fold the lace over the ends and hot glue. Cover it with ribbons and embellishments, and there you have it, cuteness in a heart

Go Texan Shirt

Go Texan is right around the corner (Feb, 22) and the family is going to the VFW hall for some birthday boot scootin and I don't have a thang to wear! I looked through one of my sewing books and found this cute shirt with crochet around the neckline but I thought it would be perfect with fringe. I bought a Hanes v-neck black t-shirt ($5.00) and 1 yard of white fringe ($2.50). I used a large zig zag stitch and it was on in 15 minutes. This was soooo easy! The pearls go perfect with it but I decided turquoise would be divine with the Cowboy and Indian theme. Go Texan!

Turkey Salad

I have been making this turkey salad for quite some time and I love it! I take 1 pound of ground turkey and brown it with 4-5 shakes of LaChoy soy sauce and a touch of garlic salt, then I refrigerate it until needed. For work I fill the container with chopped lettuce, 1/5 of the ground turkey and Light Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. This time I had boiled eggs so I chopped up one egg white and added that. I grocery shop every two weeks so I add other vegys when it permits. The flavor is fantastic. I don't like the fat free Ranch dressing but I do like the light Ranch but it is to thick so I add quite a bit of water to it until I get the consistency I like, it seems to mix easier that way.

Every snack you make,
every meal you bake,
every bite you take,
I'll be watching you.

Turkey Meatballs

For Superbowl Sunday I made these spicy turkey meatballs. I bought 1 pound of ground turkey, added garlic salt and pepper to taste. I used my 1 tablespoon scoop to scoop them out and placed them on a foil covered cookie sheet to bake. I baked them for 15 minutes, pulled them out poured 1/4 cup of melted butter mixed with 1/4 cup of Franks Hot Sauce over the top and back into the oven for 10 more minutes. These were good but I don't think it needed the butter. So next time I will put 1/8 of a cup of hot sauce in the meatball mixture and the other 1/8 cup on top. Not to spicy, not to hot :)

Those Rascals

We were invited to a birthday party at Laser Tag and we had a blast! You know you just have to love little kids, Paxton had a baggie full of coins but he and his cousin Bishop didn't need a dime to have fun. They played the shooting game (without coins) and were having so much fun, every time the transformers exploded they would yell. I took a picture of them and they pointed the guns at me, those little rascals! After an hour of not playing the transformer game they decided to ride the motorcycles. Again they didn't need any coins but the bikes were heavy and they had to be helped some. I would just lean the bike the way he was supposed to but after a while grandma gets tired of the games. Sometimes I didn't lean it fast enough and he would run into the stuff off of the track. It was just the simulator but he thought it was me! To bad everyone can't be this easily amused, but then again I was!
